Coach Gordie: “We want Russia!”
Day 6: We want Russia!
The success of the Olympics in Vancouver for Canadians all comes down to the Quarter Final game Wednesday between Russia and our home team Canada! The Gold medal game favorites Russia and Canada will be the spectacle of the games. The game everyone hoped for but because of Canada’s disappointing start it will be just to stay alive and not for all the marbles. I simply can not think of Canada being eliminated in the Quarters on home ice.
I like the way Canada played against the Germans with the Canadians finding the back of the net, but please it was just Germany. If Canada confuses Marcel Goc for Alex Ovechkin they are in for a big surprise. If the road stops in the Quarters, Team Canada will be the only ones to blame. With questionable goaltending, sloppy defensive play, a powerless Power-Play and an obvious lack of chemistry, they will have to find a solution when they hit the ice tonight. Even if you are the best team, you have to play that way!
The Swedes, the USA, and the Finns must be excited to watch the key match up tonight as regardless of the outcome, their chances of bringing home some hardware will have improved significantly.
“We want Russia! We want Russia!” the crowd chanted at the end of the German game but as the old saying goes, be careful what you wish for because it might come true!
Wednesday is a huge day for Hockey Canada and the Games…
I hope Thursday is too.
